Porcupines limit Lexington, earn second straight victory

The Pineville Porcupines looked to earn their second consecutive victory Friday night,
following a 4-2 victory Tuesday against the Hendersonville Honeycrisps.
Once again for Pineville, it was Hueston Gorham on the mound, a steady right-hander
from North Carolina A&T. After some control issues in his last outing, Gorham pitched to
contact against the Flying Pigs and saw tremendous success.

Hueston Gorham #32
Gorham went five innings on the night, striking out one while allowing four hits, three
walks and just one run.
At the plate, it was recent Virginia Tech commit Lucas De La Cruz who inflicted damage
on Lexington, going 2-for-3 with a double, single, walk and two stolen bases. De La
Cruz scored Pineville’s first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, tying things at
one apiece following the departure of Gorham.

Lucas De La Cruz #14
MJ Doan was nearly spotless in relief, pitching three scoreless innings, allowing two hits
and tallying three strikeouts.
Then in the bottom of the seventh inning, after opening the game 0-for-8 with runners in
scoring position, left fielder Michael Rogers came through, driving in center fielder Riley
Stiles to help Pineville take a 2-1 lead.
From there, Tucker Gandy sealed the deal, pitching a scoreless ninth inning to preserve
a 2-1 Porcupines victory.
The Pineville pitching staff has been nothing short of dominant as of late, allowing just
three runs in their last 18 innings of work. Now on a two-game win streak, the
Porcupines will face the Waynesville Hollers Saturday, with third place in the Mountain
Division standings on the line.
